The London Metropolitan Orchestra String Ensemble play live with Joji Hirota

LMO’s next live performance will be with Joji Hirota. Formed in the early 80′s, Joji Hirota & London Taiko Drummers are a well established Japanese traditional and contemporary taiko drumming group, who have performed at many worldwide concerts and international festivals.

The London Metropolitan Orchestra String Ensemble have been invited to join Joji Hirota for an exciting evening of Japanese Folk music and Taiko Drumming on March 9th at St Mary’s Church. The concert will be directed by Andy Brown.

LMO recorded Fast and Furious Live – the arena show with composer James Brett recently at Abbey Road studio 1. Premiering at the O2 London, the show then embarks on a UK tour.

LMO perform with Paul Weller at London’s Royal Festival Hall

Paul Weller and LMO recently performed 2 sold out concerts at the Royal Festival Hall, London.

Paul performed tracks from his new album True Meanings as well as other career classics in the concerts, which were also recorded for subsequent DVD and cinematic release. Hannah Peel arranged and conducted the tracks and scored for strings and brass. LMO was led by Kirsten Klingels.

The concert cinematic release is scheduled for February 28, 2019.

Narcissus and Echo

1 smallLMO recently recorded and premiered Narcissus and Echo - a specially commissioned ballet by Ilan Eshkeri for Project Polunin at Sadlers Wells Theatre, London.

The World Premiere and subsequent run of 5 further sold out performances took place at Sadler’s Wells Theatre with Sergei Polunin and a unique group of leading ballet dancers.

The soundtrack for Narcissus and Echo will be released on the Universal label on June 30.

LMO vintage recordings

Our LMO vintage recordings series continues!

Here’s an iconic show with Jimmy Page and Robert Plant, recorded at ITV studios in London’s Bank in 1994, following a short UK tour with LMO.

The track featured ‘Since I’ve Been Loving You’ is from their album ‘No Quarter’, which was subsequently released by Atlantic Records.

Cover SmallLMO have recently returned from a 9 concert tour to Japan. Cities visited included Tokyo, Sendai, Morioka, Otsuchi and Iwate – some of the worst affected areas of the Great East Japan earthquake and Tsunami in March 2011. The Tohoku Charity, established to support victims of the tragedy through cultural support, promoted the tour which followed concerts and recordings in London. Further support came from the British Council, Japan foundation, Sasakawa Great Britain, Anglo Japanese organisation, and the Daiwa Foundation. The tour repertoire celebrated a fascinating fusion of Eastern and Western cultures and included arrangements of traditional
Japanese folksongs by multi instrumentalist and composer / arranger
Joji Hirota who 1 Smallwas also a soloist on the tour.

LMO was led by Rita Manning and conducted by Andy Brown. The principal cellist Rachael Lander has written a very insightful blog (part one and part two) and a tour dvd will shortly be available for sale with all proceeds to be donated to the Tohoku charity.

LMO perform at Earl’s Court for the launch of the new Samsung Galaxy S3 smartphone

X3 SmallLMO recently performed live for Samsung Mobile Unpacked – the launch of Samsung’s new smartphone, the Galaxy S3.

A seventeen piece LMO string group and 3 brass, led by David Juritz and conducted by Andy Brown performed music and arrangements by Julian Scott and Julian Kershaw at Earl’s Court 1 for the product which was introduced by Samsung President J K Shin.

The Galaxy S3, which is intended to rival Apple’s iPhone, will be available to consumers by the end of May 2012.
