Concert for George DVD out soon
The concert took place on 29th November 2002 at the Royal Albert Hall. It was organised by George Harrison’s widow Olivia, his son Dhani, and longtime friend Eric Clapton, who musical directed the show.
LMO performed in the first half of the show with Anoushka Shankar and an Indian orchestra and choir, performing a piece which her father Ravi Shankar had composed specially for the concert, in memory of the man he thought of as a son. Eric Clapton joined in for one part of the piece which was called “Arpan” (offering).
The second half of the concert included many of Harrison’s own songs, and other songs by his friends and colleagues. Artists featured in the concert included Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Dhani Harrison, Joe Brown, Jools Holland, Geoff Lynne, Ray Cooper, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and Sam Brown. They performed songs such as “Tax Man”, “Here Comes the Sun”, “Horse to the Water”, “Something”, “While my Guitar Gently Weeps” and loads more.
The CD DVD of the concert is now available on Warner Vision (in good record shops and online at amazon etc, a “buy” link is available on our recordings page) and the film has a limited theatrical release in cinemas across the US and the UK from mid October 2003 onwards.
