LMO record The Kid with Ilan Eshkeri.

Primary ResizedThe Kid is based on the international bestseller which was published in 2003. It tells the moving story of Kevin Lewis, played by RupertĀ  Friend, whose early life suffered from appalling parenting and bullying at school. After he was put into care Kevin found himself caught up in a criminal underworld that knew him as The Kid. Yet, in spite of all this he survives to have a successful relationship and make a fulfilling life for himself.

Besides Ilan Eshkeri’s underscore for The Kid which featured 12 violins, 4 violas, 2 celli, double bass, flute, oboe and clarinet, many classical music references were recorded for the soundtrack. These included sections from Elgar’s cello concerto, recorded with Caroline Dale, Brahms 3rd symphony, Pachelbel’s Canon and Beethoven’s Pastoral symphony. The recordings were made at Abbey Road studio 1 with LMO led by David Juritz and conducted by Andy Brown. Steve Mclaughlin and Ilan Eshkeri co – produced the sessions.

Secondary ResizedAfter the orchestra had finished, LMO pianist Sally Heath recorded an excerpt from Rimsky – Korsakov’s Flight of the Bumblebee and Eric Satie’s Gnossiennes no 2.

The Kid, directed by Nick Moran, also stars James Fox and Natascha McElhone and will be distributed by Falcon Films early in 2010.
