LMO record The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones with Atli Orvarsson

1 SmallLMO have recently been working with composer Atli Orvarsson, recording music for The Mortal Instruments at Abbey Road Studio 1.

The Mortal Instruments is based on the worldwide best-selling book series by Cassandra Clare, and is set in contemporary New York City. A teenager Clary Fray, played by Lily Collins, discovers she is a descendant of the Shadowhunters – a secret group of young half-angel
warriors who must protect our World from demons, vampires, werewolves
and other deadly creatures.

2 SmallAtli Orvarsson wrote for 44 strings over 3 sessions with 8 woodwind (doubling alto flute, bass clarinet and contras bassoon) joining them for 2 of the sessions. 6 horns, 2 tenor trombones, 2 bass trombones, tuba doubling cimbasso and a separate cimbasso then convened for a further session.

A session for 4 percussionists happened before the orchestral dates,
and the recordings were completed by Metro Voices comprising 6 sopranos, 6 altos, 6 tenors and 6 basses.

David Juritz led LMO which was conducted by the composer Atli Orvarsson and the recordings were produced and mixed by Steve Mclaughlin.
The Mortal Instruments, directed by Harald Zwart and produced by Sony Pictures Entertainment, was released Worldwide in August 2013.
