LMO record The Young Victoria
The Young Victoria is a dramatisation of the turbulent first years of Queen Victoria’s rule, and her enduring romance with Prince Albert. Ilan Eshkeri recorded his score with LMO in Abbey Road Studio 1 over 7 sessions. Steve McLaughlin was the engineer, assisted by Richard Lancaster. The music was written for a full orchestra, with a string strength of 12 1st violins, 10 2nd violins, 8 violas, 6 celli and 4 double basses, 4 horns, trumpet, 2 trombones, timps / percussion, harp and piano / celeste.The orchestra was led by Gabrielle Lester who also recorded several violin solos for the score.
Alistair Malloy (glass harmonica) and William Purefoy (counter tenor) contributed further overdubs.
End titles to The Young Victoria were sung by Sinead O’Connor and recorded with a smaller string section at British Grove Studios. Andy Brown conducted all the sessions.
